Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 October 2026.
Local Kindness ("Local Kindness", "we", "us") connects people who want something done in a suburb with the local businesses and local people who can do it ("providers"). This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information, and applies to customers, providers and anyone else who uses Local Kindness. It is intended to be consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What personal information we collect
Depending on how you use Local Kindness, we may collect:
- Contact details — name, email address, phone number.
- Account information — login credentials.
- Listing information — business or trading name, ABN, suburb, contact details, pickup address, and what you add to your listing (description, logo, photos, offers and prices).
- Order information — what was ordered, the name and address of the person receiving it, the delivery date, the card message, and the customer's name and email.
- Business contact details — the email address a business publishes on its own website, which we use to invite it to list (see Direct marketing, below).
- Payment information — Local Kindness does not store your full card details. Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor; see Stripe's own privacy policy for how they handle payment data.
- Content you upload — listing photos and logos, and the photo taken at each delivery.
- Technical information — what is required to keep you signed in, plus a cookieless count of the pages viewed on the site (see Cookies, below).
How we collect personal information
We collect personal information directly from you when you create an account, list, place or fulfil an order, or otherwise use Local Kindness. A business's email address is collected from the business's own public website. We also use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It sets no cookie, does not follow you across other websites, and does not tell us who you are. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Why we collect, use and disclose personal information
We use personal information to:
- Provide Local Kindness — accounts, listings, orders, deliveries, refunds and payments.
- Communicate with you about your account, listing or orders (including service and transactional emails).
- With your consent, or as otherwise permitted by law, send you marketing about Local Kindness services — see Direct marketing, below.
- Maintain the safety, security and integrity of the platform, including preventing fraud and misuse.
- Meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We give the providers in an order what they need to fulfil it: each provider sees what they are supplying, and the person delivering sees the pickup and delivery addresses. The customer sees the delivery photo. We do not sell personal information.
Direct marketing
We may send a business one email inviting it to list, to the address the business publishes on its own website, and we may send you information about Local Kindness. Every marketing message includes a way to opt out, and you can also opt out at any time by contacting ask@reply.localkindness.com.au. Opting out of marketing does not opt you out of transactional messages needed to deliver a service you've booked.
Service providers and overseas disclosure
We use third-party service providers to operate the platform, including Stripe (payments), Supabase (database, storage and authentication), Vercel (hosting) and Resend (email). These providers may store or process information outside Australia as part of their own global infrastructure. We take reasonable steps to ensure our service providers protect personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No online platform can guarantee absolute security.
Data retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the platform, meet legal and accounting obligations, and resolve disputes. Order, payment and delivery records are kept as part of Local Kindness's business records even after an account is closed or a listing is removed. See also our Terms of Service.
Access and correction
You can access and update most of your account information directly from your dashboard. To request access to, or correction of, personal information we hold about you, contact ask@reply.localkindness.com.au. We'll respond within a reasonable time.
Cookies
Local Kindness uses only the cookies required to keep you signed in and to operate the platform securely. Our page-view counting sets no cookie at all. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Children's privacy
Local Kindness is not directed at children and is not knowingly used to collect information from children.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we've handled your personal information, contact us at ask@reply.localkindness.com.au and we'll investigate. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Local Kindness grows. We'll post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date.
